The Tradr Guide · Trading
How PnL is Calculated
Tradr calculates your profit and loss (PnL) based on real market prices, your risk percentage, and your risk-to-reward ratio.
On open trades
While a trade is open, your floating PnL shows how much you'd gain or lose if the trade closed right now. It's displayed as a percentage of your account and updates in real time.
The calculation uses the distance from your entry to the current price, relative to the distance from your entry to your original stop loss, scaled by your risk percentage. In simple terms: if you risked 2% and the price has moved halfway to your take profit, your floating PnL is roughly +1%.
On closed trades
When a trade closes, the realized PnL is locked in permanently. This is the actual percentage gain or loss applied to your equity.
- Win (TP hit): Your gain equals your risk percentage multiplied by your risk-to-reward ratio. For example, if you risked 2% with a 1:3 R:R, you gain 6%.
- Loss (SL hit): Your loss equals your risk percentage. If you risked 2%, you lose 2%.
- Manual close: Your PnL depends on where the price was when you closed. It could be a win, loss, or breakeven.
PnL badge
On trade cards, the PnL badge shows: - For open/pending trades: "Risking X%" in neutral gray. - For closed trades: The actual realized PnL in green (win) or red (loss).
Partial closes
If you close part of your position (e.g., 50%), the realized PnL for that portion is applied to your equity immediately. The remaining position stays open with its own floating PnL.
Your equity, PnL, and stats on Tradr are notional and informational — a scoring mechanism, not a real account balance.
